Miss Lucy in the paper

Lucy: "Why is he standing like that? Why does he look like that? Why is he cold? Why is he thinking deep thoughts?" etc . . .

Summer fun with Lucy and Will.

I totally loved having Lucy and Will (and Heather & Joe) visit. I just wish that it could have been a longer visit. My flat was full!

It was a wonderful visit and packed full of activities. The first order of business was the beach. And the incredible weather that we had the first of September was just ideal. Heather had been preparing Lucy for what to expect and that girl was not disappointed. She loved the sand and sand castle building. She loved bobbing around in the waves with her mom, and she loved the wind and the noise of the waves. She was very satisfied. When it was time to leave the beach, she had the sand washed off her and dressed in dry clothes she turned to her Mom and said "I'm not having fun any more". LOL.

We spent time in the city, in the country, visiting family, and eating great meals.

Roy hung a swing on the back deck for Lucy and it was wonderful to have it for her. She loves to go high "under duck Gramma, under duck!" "grab me!" LOL.

Someday Will will be flying high on that swing. Right now he's content to give us shy smiles. What a sweet boy. It looks like he will survive the chaos of a large noisy family.

Cape Breton

On July 30 we headed to Cape Breton, and after numerous delays due to road construction (Stewiacke, New Glasgow, Antigonish) we arrived at the Dundee. It was great. Cape Breton is absolutely beautiful, and where we stayed was right on the Bras d'or Lakes, so there were incredible vistas everywhere.

We had a rather nice (albeit expensive) dinner at the Dundee Resort on Friday night, and on Saturday we went kayaking in the morning, which felt just great.

John and Andrea's wedding was wonderful. It was held in St. Peters with the reception at the Dundee, which is where most of the guests stayed.

It was my first time at the Dundee and I really enjoyed myself. It is a wonderful place for families. All the children were having a great time either on the lake, in the indoor pool, or in the outdoor pool, volleyball, and of course golfing. Tons of activities. A really good feel to the place.

My birthday . . .

I have to say that I'm now 60 years old, and while I never really thought of 60 as old, I did find myself buying a walking cane this week (see foot injury blog). Somehow that just seemed to fit.

The very nice thing about this birthday was the family and friends that celebrated with me. Roy booked a private room at "It's All Greek To Me" restaurant in Dartmouth and surprised me with a wonderful gathering of close family and friends. Lovely food, lovely wine and great conversation.

I'm also the proud owner of a first generation "IPAD". I'm very much in love with it and I'm sure you'll be reading more about it as time goes on. Did you know that there is a "quilting" App for the Ipad? This is going to be a lot of fun.

Roy and I are heading to Cape Breton tomorrow for a Logan family wedding. While we won't be doing much hiking, we do hope to do some kayaking. I'll post some pics.

Foot injury

What have I done to myself. Sheesh! It was either when I was painting or when I was working in the garden, but I somehow managed to tear a ligament in my foot and it is painful. That was five days ago. Last night it swelled up again so I'm back to icing it and I'm wearing a wrap-around bandage to help stabilize it, but I'm beginning to wonder if it will ever heal. It's real pesky not being able to walk on a foot. A real nuisance!

Ottawa family

Last weekend was Lucy's birthday party. She was a real princess and had a great day. She was sad when all her friends went home. So precious.

Will is now two months old and growing like crazy -- he's a real bruiser. Lucy is always holding "my baby". She's a great big sister.

Roy went to Ottawa for a weekend to meet little (big) Will. He had a wonderful visit, but it was all too short. We're excited to have them come visit us in September.

Ottawa visit

A growing concern: Will is now 10 lbs (he gained 10 oz in just 3 days). Three week old Will and 2 1/2 year old Lucy were the highlights. Heather and I treated ourselves to pedicures, we went in the double decker bus ride around Ottawa/Hull, we drove to Wilno, to eat at the world famous "Wilno Tavern" owned by a dear cousin (Corinne), and we did some gardening - put in a herb bed for the fam to enjoy and we had a baby shower for Heather and Will where she got some very lovely "little guy" outfits. Much needed.

Lucy and Gramma on the double decker bus. It was the best Ottawa tour -- just a wonderful experience and even though the wind blew Lucy's beautiful blue hat off her head and it got lost - she eventually rallied (although she really mourned the loss of the hat). Her mother bought her a hat just like it that evening and became a hero! We had a great time and giggled and giggled and rubbed noses -- silly lucy and silly gramma!
